    Math Teacher
I have been teaching Career and Technical Math Education for 9 years (integrated math)
Even though I have had my own experiences with the issues in math in today's society I would like to know more about it and see if I can use this information to better understand those in my class that are struggling with Basic Math.

I have been teaching middle school for 22 years. I am hoping to be able to better understand the struggles students have, including my own 4th grader. I believe that much of it is developmental, but what else is going on that makes math difficult for many people?

  3. Lori Hurtgam, 11th grade Consultant Teacher at Lewiston-Porter High School in math and science classes for 5 years. I have worked in Math 9, Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2 classes as the Consultant Teacher. I hope to gain a little motivation for my students through this class. I hate how students do not enjoy math or see the benefits of it, because I think it truly is a wonderful subject to study.

    Life Skills and Algebra CC

Four years of experience teaching Int. Alg., Geo, and Alg2/Trig at Niagara Academy and 4 years coteaching a 15:1 Int. Alg or Alg CC at Newfane. My first experience teaching math was as a long-term sub teaching "Sequence III Honors". There were several students in that class that were excited about math! Since then, it seems like most students are they because they have to be and most despise math.

  7. My name is Kelly Block and I have been a special education teacher at Lewiston-Porter for 18 years. I work in two 5th grade consultant teacher classrooms, one being with Janelle Sandonato-Siuta. I co-teach math in both classrooms and am familiar with the modules. I am always interested in learning more about how to differentiate instruction and increase student engagement.

  8. My name is Janelle Sandonato-Siuta. I have been teaching at Lewiston-Porter for 13 years. I have had experience teaching 3rd and 4th grade, however, I have spent most of my time in the consultant teacher model in 5th grade with Kelly Block. We currently use the modules from engageNY as our curriculum. I would like to learn more about differentiation and student engagement.

Would like to better understand why my students struggle with basic math. Simple multiplication and division problems can be very difficult for them.

  12. My name is Kyle Hurtgam and I am a consultant teacher in 10th grade Earth Science and Algebra. This is my 6th year teaching, 2 years as HS math teacher, 4 years as special education teacher. I am very intrigued by the title of the course, and I want to see how I can help my students succeed.

  13. Hi everyone. My name is Jessica Cruz and I am an 11th grade Consultant Teacher at Lewiston-Porter. This year I push into English and Social Studies, but I have attended several levels of math classes in the past and continue to help students with math whenever possible. This is my 7th year as a special education teacher and I taught Global Studies I and II my first year of teaching. I wanted to take this course because of the title- because it is so true! Many of my students are successful in English and Social Studies, but math is always troublesome and in some cases it is what stands in their way for graduation. In addition, I now have a child of my own and have begun to think about how we will teach her about numbers and mathematical concepts.
